Greetings y’all! My name is Charity Sonia and I am a Black disabled artist, doula, and social justice care-worker. I was raised by my phenomenal Mama, Diana Whyte, who immigrated to the U.S. with her father and 6 siblings when she was 11 years old from Panama. I was born in Hialeah, Florida and grew up mostly in Dekalb County, Georgia where I attended Dekalb School of the Arts for visual arts & drama. Praying, painting, practicing cosmetology with my Mom, cultivating healing care, and community service have been sacred medicine throughout my childhood and life.
In 2016, I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Women, Gender Studies and Global Justice from Colgate University, and has have had incredible opportunities to study, live, and work across Turtle Island (USA), Egypt, South Africa, and Costa Rica studying and doing work rooted in human rights, racial equity funding, artivism, and community healing.
Grow & Glow began in 2019 after I joined Corner Stone’s Full Spectrum Doula & Advocacy training cohort, and fell in love with being a steward for beloved community through reproductive justice, healing justice, and grief care-work. That year, I also experienced severe health challenges that required short term disability leave from work and completely transformed my life. I often say that life pushed me into becoming a life learner of somatic embodiment, healing justice, and a daily practitioner of disability justice frameworks. I felt spiritually called by Creator to support other folks with disabilities navigate life shifts in style! I am passionate about showing up for BIPOC disabled individuals and families in celebrations of life and death related to births, weddings, dream manifesting, art musings, and grief care.
I am currently living on unceded Lisjan & Muwekma Ohlone Native lands in Oakland, California and work for San Francisco Foundation’s Community Impact People Pathway.
I love affirming folks, and find joy in co-creating pathways that ignite your soul’s natural glow! Whether the path is birthing a baby, marrying the love of your life, manifesting a dream project, or applying for grants… Let’s connect, focus on your growth, and amplify your glow!
